Quatrzsite

Well we were not able to make the Quartzsite ham fest last month, so we decided that a 4 wheeling trip to Quartzsite and some rock hounding was in order.
Friday night we drove out and spent the night in the free short term camping area South of Quartzsite
This is only dry camping, no running water, electricity, or bathrooms, and very few bushed, but we made due.
Saturday morning, got the dutch oven out and made biscuits and scrambled eggs, then made our way to crystal hill to hunt for some quartz crystals.
Lots of quartz pieces laying around.

Julia found a nice crystal of quartz.
We also found a geo cache and only signed the log book in it, we didn't bring anything to trade this time.

After we were done here we continued on down the pipeline road to look for some other types of rocks. We stopped about 12 miles down the road and looked around for a little while, didn't find what we were looking for so we headed back to the truck and Julia found a desert creature that scared her a little bit.

Julia's surprise, western patch nose about 18 inches long.

Did we really go this far away from the truck?
As we continue our journey back to Vicksburg, we made a detour to the Kofa Cabin, in the Kofa Refuge, pretty cool place. It was built by Native Americans, and half of it is available on a first come first serve basis to stay in over night. Now it is not a 5 star by any means, but it is pretty cool, wood burning stove, a couple of cots a broom and a mop, and a log book to sign. Bring your own water and bedding as well as a lantern.
