ATV Jamboree Sept 2010

Ginger and John

September is the Rocky Mountain ATV Jamboree, usually held on the 3rd week in the month, this was my 10th year attending, Gingers 2nd, and Johns 9th. John was not feeling well this time and rode on 3 of the 5 rides, ginger and I had a blast all week long, brilliant views of the changing leaves. The only drawback was the Twitchell canyon fire that has been burning since July this year, lots of smoke and ashes, we had ashes falling on us on Monday afternoon.

Check out the kids pointing.
Thursday is the day of the parade, nearly 700 ATV's UTV's were in the parade. Be aware that we always wear a helmet when we ride, but for the parade we made an exception. As we rode down main street, the people on the sides were waving and pointing, it only took a few minutes to figure what they were pointing at.

The talk of the Jamboree
The only 3 wheeler in the bunch.
Yes! Ginger was the only 3 wheeler in the parade and on the rides, everyone was coming up to her like she was a super hero, they were impressed with her riding skills, ( I have been bringing up a 3 wheeler for 9 years, but I am not a girl.)

The fall colors are bright yellow on the aspens and blazing red on the oaks, covering the mountains with colors that cant be imagined, and the trails going through the forests with the leaves changing and falling are simply gorgeous. The key is to keep far enough behind the rider in front of you to stay out of the dust but close enough not to get lost.

This was our Friday ride, there were 31 machines on this one, a 80 mile ride over the mountain to the town of Filmore, this ride was sponsored by Polaris, and included a lunch of pizza in town along with a fuel stop. This ride included a trail along Chalk Creek, and had several water crossings. Ginger being a Scorpio, found out that Scorpios love water, had to splash through the crossings, in one of them she hit a rock with her front tire that caused her to wheelie. As she went up and slid back she opened the throttle more and ended looping the bike out from under her. She ended up on her back on the bank of the creek in the rocks shoe missing and new fall colors on her back side of black and blue, and the bike landed upside down, fenders off and handle bars bent. People and machine were mended and joined back together to go the rest of the 45 or so miles of the trip.

After a 80 mile ride through the mountains, we returned to the camp ground to get cleaned up for the closing dinner and prize give away, even though the dust the smiles are big. Dinner was good, roast beef, taters with carrots and sausage, rolls, and cake. Don't forget the Coke, thanks Fred!
Saturday morning loaded up everything stopped at the Ideal Dairy for breakfast and a case of Punch bags, ( juice bags with 6 different flavors that can be frozen and used to cool the ice chest and then drank when they thaw). Time to clean and mend the toys to get ready for next year.
See you in Utah.

Great. Now Mom is going to want to go every year! How will I get my work done if my employees keep taking vacation?!?!

We will have to make the trip again sometime. Dusty and I had a lot of fun last year!
