Traveling Seven Sisters

My Great Grandmother Emma Dorinda Knudsen
(30 Jul 1890-15 Nov 1968) lived in west Phoenix when I was just a small girl. I remember going to her house and that she was kind and had a fun yard to play in. There are just places sometimes that you have good feelings about. This was one of them. When I was 8 this grandmother passed away, and my mother some time later aquired one of the rose bushes from her yard, Seven Sisters. I remember this bush at the home I lived in, in Chandler. It florished and was beautiful. Years later after I had grown and married that house was sold and my Grandmother Florence K Posey (13 Nov 1919-22 Aug 1998) went to the house and dug it up. She had an awsome green thumb and took the one plant, split it and grew three beautiful bushes in Payson. Two weeks after Julia was born this grandmother passed away. When the time came and her house sold I requested one of the rose bushes. I dug it up, brought it home and planted it next to the house. I do not have a green thumb. I struggle with most of the living things in our yard. Automatic sprinklers and the garden guy have helped me a lot. For 10 years this bush has struggled and gotten smaller and smaller as I have pruned off the dead growth and tried to help it. This year I decided maybe it needed a different location so I moved it to the front where my Lincoln Rose Bush is (Michael gave it to me on Valentine's one year). I had pruned it back to only 4 " in hopes that it would survive. Miracles do happen, here it is just 3 months later with more blooms than I have ever had in one year. Over the years for some reason a few of Great Grandma's things have come to my house. The rose bush, her rocker, and her treadle sewing machine. I hope some day my great grandchildren will be able to say, this place has a good feeling.
